Fondation Mérieux expands its work in Armenia on infectious diseases

The first French-Armenian International Conference on Perinatal Infections took place in June 2025 at Yerevan State Medical University named after Mkhitar Heratsi, gathering over 400 healthcare professionals from across the country. The event focused on the prevention, diagnosis, and management of maternal and neonatal infections, a key priority in reducing infant mortality in Armenia.

Our CEO, Dr Robin Vicken Ohannessian MD MPH PhD, was honoured to present on “Epidemiological data on perinatal infections in Armenia” highlighting critical trends and challenges in the local healthcare landscape. A heartfelt thank you to the organizers, Actions Santé Femmes, Professor Henri-jean Philippe, and all the dedicated local and international participants. This milestone event sets the foundation for future joint initiatives to advance maternal and neonatal care in the region.

This milestone conference marked the launch of Fondation Mérieux’s first long-term public health initiative in Armenia, aiming to strengthen laboratory capacity and infectious disease prevention in maternal and child health. A pilot project for a new bacteriology laboratory was also announced.
